Firefly The Firefly, the new hit Whedon series, came out of a one-off show. Summer Glau played River Tam without difficulty. Glau was an excellent actor. Tam, as the character from the film was named, was the subject of government experiments that were designed to make her the ideal assassin. Tam's emotional control was removed as a direct result. The show Firefly Glau was capable of displaying not just her acting skills but her ability to fight. Glau had the ability to use her athletic skills since she was preparing to become an assassin. Summer Glau is a classically educated ballerina. She has also studied tango and Flamenco, but a broken foot put an end to her dancing career. Firefly ran for only one year but gained an avid audience. It was so passionate that Whedon went back to it just a couple of years after.
