Perry has the father of actors Laurie Metcalf, and Jeff Perry. The role of Jackie Harris was played by her mom in both of her two appearances on Roseanne. The actress did not go on to pursue acting as a career until after she had reached adulthood, as her parents were worried about the detrimental effects that stress could cause. Perry was shy during high school and did not act. She began acting in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was moved to the university from Boston University. Perry started her acting career in New York after graduation, getting small role on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry return to California and pursue a career as a stage actress. She appeared on Broadway in The Other Place with her mother in 2013. Perry was in the show with her father Kevin McKidd and Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize winning drama Anna Christie in 2015 in The Odyssey Theatre Ensemble, West Los Angeles. Perry played a role in 9 episodes of The Family, an ABC thriller The Family in 2016. Her father played her character in her role on the ABC drama Scandal. The actress also portrayed in the role of a younger Mary Cooper in Young Sheldon, a CBS spin-off of The Big Bang Theory. She was cast in the role despite her close relationship with the character's family.
